Video Blog Post

I feel out of all my 10 videos this one is by far the one that takes the lead. I know its not your I guess 'ideal video' on how this technically relates to my life purpose, but I do remember watching this video and thinking of how similar Tyler and I were. He's honestly my inspiration when it comes to creativity and photos/videos. His work ethic and his go getter attitude is so inspiring. I hope to travel the world like him capturing "once in a lifetime photos." But I hope to do if for a non profit organization or something. I feel when it comes to this you are always constantly growing as an artist, but also as a person.

I think being an artist requires to learn how to understand, but also to be heard. There's always a community when it comes to the things you love and I feel like with this there is always going to be a constant communication on your input on life's headlines, but also even personal. This kind of passion that he has is so contagious and it literally sets that fire in my soul. I take that passion that he has in this video to another level and apply it all areas of my life. Yes, even my personal life. That means being there for my family and friends 24/7 whenever and however. I'm there because they are my people and I love them. I feel I am already at a good place when it comes to listening and other skills, but I guess I need to work on those active listening skills and other skills to social media.

I think the only thing I can do is just really try be here for my community online and really take that passion I have in real life to the social media world. It's hard to say for sure, but I guess just really apply that real life scenarios and treat the online ones the same when it comes to building a community.

Since being involved in the 'arts' I feel its important to always to be understood or really just be free to express, but you know that saying "One of the most sincere forms of respect is actually listening to what others have to say." I think I can use my life purpose to listen to what family and friends or just whoever I meet along the way about certain opinions on life and use it as inspiration or wisdom to gain along the way. I feel when you listen it really can take you  long ways to wherever you're headed in life.

Then with reflective listening its important in anything you do to have that constant pouring out and in to understand and to be understood. When it comes to creating content its important for me to know that whatever I am trying to communicate without saying much through my pictures is that its communicated properly to my audience and that their feedback aligns with what I was trying to communicate. I feel I practice that a lot these days especially with my photos which is apart of my life purpose.

Lastly with perception checking skills its important for me as a creator or a visual story teller that not only do I know that my ideas won't always align with others and everyone is going to have different opinions, but it also challenges me in a way if I can just get them to listen then my job is done. I think perception checking skills goes way beyond then just yourself and its hard to grasp sometimes, but I think when you have that community it will always keep you in check while achieving my dreams.

  2. Hey Gabby, when I started photography almost 10 years ago I worked with a Cannon Rebel DSLR. It was a great camera, and a cheaper alternative. I loved this video because it proves that you don't need the best equipment in the industry to create something beautiful and share your passion with others.

Another thing I think this video touched on was the importance of community and social connection when it comes to the arts. Especially nowadays, like the speaker says most jobs are hard to come by in the creative fields unless your doing tons of networking! As far as your goals, have you considered reaching out to nonprofits on island that may be looking for a way to get their objectives displayed on social media? That could be a great way for you to get your foot in the door!

    Thanks! - No'eau

  3. Being passionate about what you do is so important. I liked your video choice.
You mentioned how you might have to work on listening skills for social media. I think that's important too. So much communication these days is done online and it's easy to misinterpret the "tone" sometimes.

  4. Right? It's so hard at times if it isn't done effectively. Have you ever watched this skit key and peele? The one about the text messaging? They are so funny, but did this one skit on texting and it basically is about misinterpretation which is so funny but a serious thing that happens all the time. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=naleynXS7yo
here's the link its pretty hilarious, I get a good laugh at it every time.
